The Filipino Spirit... Seriously!

I found this in some Philippine websites and blogs.  Most mention Bill Gates, others Steve Jobs.  I just thought it worth re-blogging...

---------------------------------------

Bill Gates organized an enormous session to recruit a new Chairman for Microsoft Europe.

Exactly 5,000 candidates assembled in a large room.

One candidate is MARIO DIMACULANGAN.

Bill Gates: Thank you for coming. Those who do not know JAVA may leave.
2,000 people leave the room.

MARIO says to himself, 'I do not know JAVA but I have nothing to lose if I stay. I’ll give it a try.'

Bill Gates: Candidates who never had experience in managing more than 100 people may leave.
2,000 people leave the room.

Mario says to himself, 'I never managed anybody but myself, but I have nothing to lose if I stay.
What can happen to me?' So, he stays.

Bill Gates: Candidates who do not have MBAs may leave.
500 people leave the room.

Mario says to himself, 'I left high school at 15 but what have I got to lose?'
So, he stays in the room.

Lastly, Bill Gates asked the candidates who do not speak Serbo-Croat to leave.
498 people leave the room.

Mario says to himself, 'I do not speak one word of Serbo-Croat but what do I have to lose?'
So, he stays and finds himself with one other candidate.

Everyone else has gone.

Bill Gates joins them and says, 'Apparently, you are the only two candidates who speak Serbo-Croat, so I’d now like to hear you have a conversation together in that language.'

Calmly, Mario turns to the other candidate and says 'Ano ba yan, dong, tayo na lang ang naiwan dito?'

The other candidate answers, 'Ewan ko ba, pare, bakit nga ba sila nagsilabas?'

Hands Down to Fast 5!

I've been waiting for this "Fast & Furious" installment for so long now and I'm so excited it's finally showing.  The first four installments were so great that I was so looking forward to this one.  And from the trailer alone I knew it would be quite an action-packed movie.  What with Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson battling it out, or more like wrestling it out, in an intense bone-breaking clash of strength and muscle that will definitely leave one black and blue, or worse, handicapped. Hahaha!

And the unexpected funny scenes were so hilarious! Four words... I HAD A BLAST!

My 9-year old daughter enjoyed it so much she wants to watch it over and over again... Seriously!

I heard "Fast & Furious 6" has been given the green light and is now in the way.  Hmmm... Will there be a revenge for Han in Tokyo? Or, will it be in Europe this time?  This is going to be awesome!!!

Hammered by Thor

I'm not a movie buff - y'know, one who will watch each and every new movie that screens.  But I do know a good film when I see one... most of the time. Hehe! The trailer got me so much interested in Thor that I was looking forward to watching it but didn't have the time.  Until a week ago, that is.

The characters were typical roles seen in so many great movies but which you never get tired of -- like the relationship between the powerful & loving father misunderstood by the arrogant and stubborn son, the jealous & greedy half-brother, and loyal friends willing to give their lives for you.  Chris Hemsworth was so perfect as Thor.  He was so natural in playing the character of the arrogant, stubborn god.  And Anthony Hopkins, without further elaboration, was regal and mighty (as always) as Odin, Thor's father.

The film is more than just your ordinary action-drama-fantasy movie.  It tells of the bond & value of true friendships & love, of a father's unconditional love and pride for a son, and that greediness and evil will never triumph no matter what.

Nicely done! Visual effects were superb especially in the Asgard realm.

Snickers Peanut Butter... Squared!

( source: www.igossip.com )

I just love SNICKERS!   I grew up thinking that the best chocolates there are are Snickers and M&M's... I still do.  From the classic nougat + caramel + peanuts + milk chocolate, they now have variations such as almonds + peanuts & dark chocolate coating (instead of the usual milk chocolate) in one rich tasting, yummy bar.

And now comes Snickers Peanut Butter, too!  Nougat + Peanut + Caramel + Peanut Butter + Milk Chocolate... and with a cute, bite-size square shape to boot!  Isn't that just great?!!!

Another reason for me to love Snickers all the more...

Love x Hurt

Love 'til it hurts.

And when it hurts,

Love some more.

And when it hurts some more,

Love even more.

And when it hurts even more,

Love 'til it hurts no more.

MikeyBustos... Hey there, Spider!

I <3 Mikey Bustos, the Filipino-Canadian responsible for the viral "Filipino Accent Tutorial" that has been posted, shared, and re-shared in Facebook a couple of months ago!  I came across his video in FB and have watched it for I don't know how many times (and still laugh like hell each time!).  He is quite a character!  I find him so funny, witty, and sincere; and his eyes... they say it all.  I greatly admire that he has not lost his "Filipino-ness" despite being born in another country (Kudos to his parents!).  It seems he is more Filipino than most Filipinos (no offense meant, just objective observation).

Mikey truly is an inspiration!  He is so transparent in his messages -- his songs, his videos, Facebook posts, and tweets.  I can't even put into words how this guy has inspired me to become more grounded with my identity as a Filipino.  I'm just happy I came across his videos in Youtube... everything just comes from the heart.

My favorite song...

I just love the song "Grenade."

My all-time favorite.

3x3x3m of Comfy Living Space!

This is one small, albeit functional home!  I can live here!  Seriously!

(source: www.cubeproject.org.uk)

Called the Cube Project, it is a compact, eco-friendly home fit for a bachelor or bachelorette.

Crammed into a meager space is a receiving/living room area (with provisional space for a washing machine), toilet & bath, kitchen, and a bed.  It is a fully functional house squeezed into a 3 x 3 x 3 meter structure.

(source: www.cubeproject.org.uk)

With this new architecture, you need not own a big lot to build a modest house.  And by using solar panels, not only is it a space-saver, it's an energy-saver as well.

3 Idiots... Hilarious!

3 IDIOTS:  This movie made me laugh BIGTIME!!! Watched it alone and I really felt stupid laughing like crazy by myself.

But more than being funny, the film was a breather from the usual comic banter of most comedy films.  It offered more than that...

As wildly hilarious and entertaining as it was, one will learn a thing or two about creativity, wisdom, and the intrinsic values a person should have to achieve their life's goals.  It presents insightful life lessons in amusing ways, as well as the meaning and value of true friendship.  The movie is also about persistence, righteousness, helpfulness, and selflessness.  That intelligence and the constant hunger for learning & excellence, coupled with these values, can reap great successes and rewards; and when handled wrongly, can be your greatest failure in life.

Flying Without Wings

I'm not a Westlife fan but I’ve been listening to their songs lately and am pleasantly surprised that they have really good ones.  And one that I really liked, loved actually, is the song “Flying Without Wings” (circa 2009, I think).  When I first heard it, I was smiling to myself, speechless... an avalanche of thoughts running through my head.  The lyrics are just so meaningful; the message, very profound.

It's a song meant for that one person you value the most in life, someone you can’t live without, so to speak.  Cliche as it may sound, it’s about finding that one person or thing that would make your life complete.  Not everybody gets to do that in a lifetime, don’t you think?  Too bad the music video failed to capture that very essence.  I’m including the lyrics and MV here, you be the judge.

Everybody's looking for that something
One thing that makes it all complete
You'll find it in the strangest places
Places you never knew it could be

Some find it in the face of their children
Some find it in their lover's eyes
Who can deny the joy it brings
When you've found that special thing
You're flying without wings

Some find it sharing every morning
Some in their solitary lives
You'll find it in the words of others
A simple line can make you laugh or cry

You'll find it in the deepest friendship
The kind you cherish all your life
And when you know how much that means
You've found that special thing
You're flying without wings

So, impossible as they may seem
You've got to fight for every dream
'Coz who's to know which one you let go
Would have made you complete

Well, for me it's waking up beside you
To watch the sunrise on your face
To know that I can say I love you
In any given time or place

It's the little things that only I know
Those are the things that make you mine
And it's like flying without wings
‘Cause you're my special thing
I'm flying without wings

And you're the place my life begins
And you'll be where it ends
I'm flying without wings
And that's the joy you bring
I'm flying without wings

Beauty: La Femme

I have very limited knowledge of beauty products.  Heck, I don't even know how to put on make-up!  I have sensitive skin so I rarely use cosmetics.  But there are some products that I just swear by.

1.  Burt's Bees Lip Balm
My lips have the tendency to become dry.  For me, this lip balm is the all-in-one remedy for dry, chapped, or windburned lips.  I just apply it at night before bedtime and voila! the dryness is gone come morning.

2.  C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Tint
This one I use before I put on lipstick.  I am not comfortable with the sticky feel of most lipsticks so I need to moisturize before applying them.  What's more, it gives a slight tingle because of its peppermint ingredient, and a slight gloss and a nice tint to your lips.

3.  Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder
Clinique is the only brand (so far) I'm comfortable using on my face.  This powder has a nice matte effect for oily skin like mine.  Some friends told me that VMV is also quite gentle to sensitive skin but I haven't tried that one yet.

4.  Ever Bilena Lip & Cheek Tint
I use this local brand as it does not irritate my skin.  It easily blends and you can always re-apply anytime of the day.  For my purposes, one application in the morning already lasts me the whole day.  By the way, lipsticks are also great as a blush.  It doesn't easily wear off.

5.  Nina Ricci Moisturizing Lipstick
I definitely swear by this one!  I am quite fair so I use the color# which perfectly suits me.  This is one of those lipsticks I especially like because it's easy to apply and does not leave that sticky feel I so dislike.

6.  Clinique Mascara
I don't often use mascara because I have allergic conjunctivitis so my eyes easily get red and irritated.  But whenever I do, I use this brand as it adds volume to my lashes.  I like that it's waterproof so the color doesn't run off on my face.

7.  I have yet to find me a good concealer.  I didn't see the need for it before, but now, I do.
